Restore is the whole product.
RestorePath is a Microsoft 365 backup and recovery platform for MSPs and IT teams, built in Sydney by JCR Computers, for people who get judged on the recovery, not the backup window. Point-in-time restore down to the message. Per-tenant encryption. Self-hosted in your own environment, or on our Sydney cluster, where your customers' backup data is stored only in Australia.

Plenty of Microsoft 365 backup tools will tell you the backup ran. We tell you the restore worked.
Microsoft 365 backup is a crowded market. Many tools report that the backup job ran. RestorePath is designed around the restore: integrity-checked storage, a preview before you commit, and a per-item result after. Because the day you actually need backup, only one thing matters: can you get the customer back to a working state, fast, with the right data, without surprises. RestorePath is built around that day.
Backup jobs reported as "successful"
A green tick says the backup job ran. Whether that backup is restorable, complete, and intact is a separate question. The one nobody asks until 2 a.m.
Integrity-checked, previewed, restorable to a point in time
Every backed-up blob is named by its BLAKE3 hash and checked when it is read back, encrypted with its own tenant's key, and restorable to a specific point in time. Every restore can be previewed first and reports per-item success or failure. Restore is the product, not an afterthought.
Recovery, end to end, in a single workflow.
RestorePath is designed around the recovery flow itself, not the backup window. Every step is observable, every restore asks for a reason and an MFA check, and every restore is recorded in the audit log.
Customer reports a lost inbox
Operator pulls up the tenant in the multi-tenant console. Search across every tenant, or switch the restore view to All tenants, to find the affected mailbox.
Scrub the timeline
Point-in-time picker shows every captured state. Pick a moment before the deletion. Preview what would come back.
Per-row deselection
Restore a single message, a folder, or the whole mailbox. Deselect items from the preview before you commit; the audit entry records how many items were excluded.
Back in the user's hand
Restore writes back to the live tenant via Microsoft Graph, to the original folder or a recovery folder. The audit log records who, what, when, why, and from which point in time.
An infrastructure-grade backup platform, not a backup app.
RestorePath is a Go service with a Postgres-backed catalogue and content-addressed encrypted storage. Every architectural decision was made with an MSP running dozens of customer tenants in mind.
Per-tenant encryption
Every tenant gets its own AES-256-GCM data key (DEK), wrapped by a deployment Key Encryption Key (KEK) held by whoever operates the deployment. KEK rotation, DEK rotation, and 24-word BIP-39 recovery built in. AES-256-GCM throughout.
Point-in-time restore
Browse the catalogue back to your retention horizon. Restore a single message, a folder, a full mailbox or OneDrive, or a SharePoint site, to the original location or a recovery folder. Preview item count and size before you commit.
Tamper-evident storage
Content-addressed storage means every blob is named by its BLAKE3 hash and checked on every read, so a changed or corrupted blob fails the check instead of restoring silently. An optional scheduled integrity scan confirms every catalogued blob is still on disk and emails the result.
Multi-tenant from day one
Manage every customer tenant from a single console. Each tenant has its own encryption key, retention policy and storage assignment, with PostgreSQL row-level security as a second layer of separation. Pool migrations move tenants between storage targets in the background.
Microsoft 365 backup for Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams.
Six Microsoft 365 data sources: Exchange mail, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Calendar and Contacts. Each run is incremental via Microsoft Graph delta tokens, then compressed and deduplicated per tenant. Not covered: Exchange Online Archive mailboxes, Loop, OneNote as a standalone workload, Forms, Stream, Power Platform, Planner, Viva and Yammer. Google Workspace is in beta.
Exchange Online backup
LIVEEvery user and shared mailbox, with attachments and folder structure. Online Archive mailboxes are not included in the current release. Delta sync. Search by subject, filter by sender domain, restore a single message or export as .eml.
OneDrive backup
LIVEPer-user file backup with version history. Restore to the original path or a recovery folder, or export as a zip with the folder structure intact.
SharePoint backup

Your customers' data stays where you put it.
Run RestorePath on a JCR-managed VM inside your own infrastructure, or on our Sydney Hosting Cluster. On our Sydney cluster, backup data is stored only in Australia. Self-hosted, it stays on the storage you choose. RestorePath has no offshore storage region and does not replicate backup data across borders. Your data, your choice of location, your control.
The Sydney cluster is run by JCR Computers, a Sydney-based MSP and ISV. On the managed service, console access is protected by Cloudflare and alert emails are sent through SMTP2GO's Australian region.
Three honest sentences each. No 47-row checkbox matrix.
These are the obvious incumbents. We respect all of them; we just made different choices. If one of these is a better fit, we'll tell you. In JCR's view, based on public vendor information as at October 2026; check each vendor's current documentation.
RestorePath
Australian-built. On our Sydney cluster, backup data is stored only in Australia; self-hosted, it stays on the storage you choose.
One product whether you bring your own infrastructure or rent ours; no SKU change.
Restore is the product. Point-in-time, per-item deselection, MFA on every restore, append-only audit log.
Datto SaaS Protection
The MSP-channel veteran with a polished console. Owned by Kaseya.
Delivered as SaaS. The partner picks each organisation's storage region at setup, and it cannot be changed later, so confirm Australia is offered.
A natural fit for MSPs already standardised on the Kaseya stack.
Veeam for Microsoft 365
Available self-hosted (Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365) or as Veeam's own hosted service (Veeam Data Cloud). Mature, well-understood, deeply integrated with Veeam's broader stack.
Self-hosting means you run it, patch it, scale the storage and write the runbook.
If you already run Veeam for endpoints and servers, the case is strong. If you're starting fresh, self-hosting it is a heavy commitment.
Acronis Cyber Protect
Combines backup with security tooling: Microsoft 365 backups get anti-malware scanning, and the wider platform adds endpoint protection, patching and DR. One vendor, lots of surface area.
Strong if you want to consolidate every "cyber" line item. More than you need if you only need backup.

Microsoft 365 backup questions MSPs actually ask.
Straight answers, including the ones about what RestorePath does not do. If your question isn't here, ask us directly.
What is RestorePath?
RestorePath is a Microsoft 365 backup and point-in-time restore platform for MSPs and IT teams, built in Sydney by JCR Computers. It backs up Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, calendars and contacts through Microsoft Graph, and runs self-hosted in your environment or managed on our Sydney Hosting Cluster.
Which Microsoft 365 data does RestorePath back up?
Every user and shared mailbox in the tenant, with attachments and folder structure. Online Archive mailboxes are not included in the current release. Each user's OneDrive, including version history. SharePoint document libraries and lists. Teams channel messages and replies. Calendars and contacts for each backed-up mailbox.
What does RestorePath not back up?
Exchange Online Archive (In-Place Archive) mailboxes, Loop pages, OneNote as a standalone workload, Forms, Stream video, Power Platform, Planner, Viva and Yammer are out of scope for the current release. RestorePath is a recovery tool, not a compliance product: it does not replace Microsoft Purview for eDiscovery or litigation hold.
Can I restore a single email or file from an earlier point in time?
Yes. Pick an earlier backup in the Backup Browser, select a single message, file, event or contact (or a whole folder), and restore it to its original location or, for mail and files, to a separate recovery folder. You can also export items as a zip: mail as .eml, calendar events as JSON and contacts as .vcf.
Where is RestorePath backup data stored?
On the managed service, backups are stored on JCR's Sydney Hosting Cluster, run by JCR Computers in Sydney, so backup data is stored only in Australia. Self-hosted, a JCR-managed RestorePath VM writes to storage you choose (a NAS over SMB/CIFS or NFS, or local disk), and the data stays there. RestorePath has no offshore storage region and does not replicate backup data across borders. On the managed service, console access is protected by Cloudflare and alert emails are sent through SMTP2GO's Australian region.
How is backup data encrypted?
Each tenant has its own AES-256-GCM data key, wrapped by a deployment master key whose recovery form is a 24-word BIP-39 phrase. Both keys can be rotated. Deduplication by BLAKE3 hash is scoped per tenant, so no stored content is shared between customers.
Who can run a restore, and is it logged?
Staff use one of four roles: super admin, admin, operator or read-only, and MFA (TOTP) is required for any action that changes state. Every restore needs a written reason and a recent MFA (TOTP) check, and is recorded in an append-only audit log that is kept for seven years and can be exported to CSV.
How often does RestorePath back up?
By default each data source is backed up once a day, with tenants spread across 30-minute slots in an overnight window (Sydney time) so jobs do not all start at once. Each run is incremental, using Microsoft Graph delta tokens to fetch only what changed. Operators can change the cadence per source.
How does a Teams restore work?
RestorePath restores channel history into a new team alongside the original, so the live team is never touched. It uses Microsoft's migration mode, which must complete within 28 days of the job starting. The standard Teams backup covers channel messages and replies. 1:1 and group chats are not part of the standard backup, and chats cannot be restored.
How much does RestorePath cost?
Managed SaaS is $8.00 per protected mailbox per month, billed annually. Self-hosted is $2.50 per protected mailbox per month on an annual licence, with a 20-mailbox tenant minimum and an optional $960 done-for-you setup. SharePoint sites are included. Prices are in AUD and exclude GST. Enterprise terms are quoted.
Does RestorePath support Google Workspace?
Yes, in beta. Gmail, Google Drive (My Drive and shared drives), Google Calendar and Google Contacts are backed up using domain-wide delegation, in either backup-and-restore or backup-only mode. Beta means features may change and no service levels apply yet. Google Workspace pricing is quoted separately. Request beta access through the contact form.
How long are backups kept?
Retention is set per tenant by a retention policy with keep-all, keep-weekly, keep-monthly and keep-deleted-items windows. A daily sweep removes snapshots that have aged past their window. On the managed service the default is 30 days, extendable on request. Self-hosted, the operator sets retention. The audit log is kept for seven years whatever the retention policy.
What is the difference between managed SaaS and self-hosted?
It is the same product either way. Managed SaaS: JCR runs RestorePath on its Sydney Hosting Cluster and your backups are stored there, with 30-day retention by default and email support in Sydney business hours. Self-hosted: a JCR-managed RestorePath VM runs in your infrastructure or on our Sydney cluster, backups sit on storage you choose (a NAS over SMB/CIFS or NFS, or local disk), you set retention, and you get priority support and a deployment engineer.
Can I restore to a different Microsoft 365 tenant or recover a whole tenant?
Restoring directly into a different Microsoft 365 tenant is not supported: export the data first, then import it with the customer's own tooling. A whole tenant is recovered source by source (mail, then OneDrive, SharePoint, calendars and contacts), which can take days for a large tenant.
What happens to sharing permissions and deleted users on restore?
Restored OneDrive and SharePoint files do not keep their original sharing permissions, because Microsoft Graph does not let app-only access set them on upload, so files may need to be re-shared. If the target user has been deleted from Entra ID, the restore pauses until the user is recreated.
How does RestorePath compare with Datto, Veeam and Acronis?
RestorePath is built and supported in Australia, is the same product whether you self-host it or use our Sydney cluster, is priced per protected mailbox, and is designed around point-in-time restore rather than the backup job. In JCR's view, based on public vendor information as at October 2026: Datto SaaS Protection is delivered as SaaS and is part of the Kaseya stack. Veeam is available self-hosted (Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365) or as Veeam's own hosted service (Veeam Data Cloud). Acronis Cyber Protect combines backup with security tooling such as anti-malware, endpoint protection, patching and DR. Datto and Acronis both document Australian data centres, so confirm where your tenants' backups will be stored. Check each vendor's current documentation. The comparison section on this page has more detail.
